The Ride Smart Challenge wrapped up at the end of May and recorded a big impact in alternative transportation! Through the Ride Smart Challenge, residents logged 81,508 miles across more than 5,000 trips – an increase over last year’s participation. The most popular modes were carpooling and cycling, representing 66% of all trips logged. This equates to a reduction of 65,206 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions in the RIDE Solutions’ service area!
Every year, we recognize the top performing team (by number of trips) and the top performing individual. This year’s winning team comes from Blacksburg – “The Fightin’ TOBers” – who won by 27 trips over their nearest competition. The team won in 2016 too but fell short by just a few trips last year. Clearly, they were motivated to recapture the top spot in 2018! Kali Casper of Blacksburg registered a repeat performance as Ride Smart Challenger of the Year, logging the most trips of any individual competitor.
