Recently the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) announced a $1.5 million grant to the NRV Regional Commission that will expand the New River Water Trail from Giles County into Montgomery and Pulaski counties and the city of Radford. The funding is through ARC’s POWER program for coal impacted communities. The project will construct three boat launches and expand an existing launch. The website, newriverwatertrail.com will also be expanded to include the additional geography and will add trip planning information along with river safety messages. All three counties and the city are providing matching funds and in-kind support to execute the project. The expanded New River Water Trail will cover 61 miles of river!
