The Regional Commission welcomed geologist Dr. Philip Prince to the NRV Hazard Mitigation plan update working group on January 27th. Dr. Prince spoke with the working group about identifying potential geologic hazards in the NRV, such as landslides and karst, using LiDAR technology. LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection And Ranging, is a remote sensing method used by geologists such as Dr. Prince to gather precise information about the surface of the earth. Dr. Prince’s demonstrations of LiDAR data from the region were invaluable to the working group’s strategic discussion on mitigating potential geologic hazards.
