The Town of Christiansburg was recently awarded a $35,000 Planning Grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to explore transformative strategies for three key commercial areas: downtown, midtown (near the Christiansburg Aquatic Center), and historic Cambria. Each has distinct identities, characteristics and opportunities and the Town would like to clearly promote which uses and activities best complement each area. The Planning Grant funds will support community outreach to provide feedback, evaluation and analysis of the strengths and challenges of each of the three commercial areas, and the creation and prioritization of implementation strategies. Through the use of creative public engagement, the participation of active community partners, and incorporating the history and culture already present in these areas, the Town hopes to attract dynamic businesses and promote downtown as a community gathering place.
