The Regional Commission will soon be kicking off an update to the Regional + Local Housing Study. Originally completed in 2021, the initial study took a comprehensive look at the state of housing in the region, analyzed quantitative data from public and proprietary sources and qualitative data from conversations with stakeholders from around the region. This data then helped to create seven regional-level implementation strategies as well as tailored strategies for each locality in the region. The new study will evaluate progress since 2021 and create updated strategies for implementation over the next five years.
The study is in partnership with the Center for Housing Research at Virginia Tech and HousingForward Virginia. It is funded through grants from Virginia Housing and the Appalachian Regional Commission as well as local partner investment.
