The Floyd County scatter-site housing rehabilitation project is underway, with two homes under construction and seven more households approved for housing rehab assistance. This housing rehab project, funded in part by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, represents a unique project approach where rehab applicants are accepted from anywhere in Floyd County instead of a tightly defined project area. This approach allows very rural communities like Floyd to successfully compete for grant funds and serve the housing needs of its low-to-moderate income residents.
Habitat for Humanity is serving as the contractor for the first two homes and will be bringing a significant contribution of volunteer labor and donated materials to the project. The remaining rehabilitation work, anticipated to be four additional rebuilds and nine rehabilitations, will be competitively bid to local contractors.
