The NRV Recovery Ecosystem leadership team had the opportunity to meet in person this month and tour New River Valley Community Services’ 401 Peer Center in Radford. The 401 Peer Center functions as a community center for those in recovery and had 400 participants last quarter. Participants have access to multiple models of recovery programming, social activities, wifi and computers, as well as food, showers and restrooms. The Peer Center is located next door to other NRVCS facilities such as mental health and crisis services. The Peer Center is run exclusively by people in long term recovery and gives participants in recovery a chance to train to become Peer Recovery Specialists themselves. The NRV Recovery Ecosystem Opioid Abatement Authority grant funds have been used to expand services at the Radford location in Year One and will fund continued growth and expansion to new Peer Centers in Floyd and Giles Counties.
