The Town of Narrows is achieving its River Center Action Plan goals! Since 2017, the Town has been busy pursuing additional outdoor recreation/economic development strategies and successfully received competitive grant funding from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and the Appalachian Regional Commission in 2019. Combined grant funding was nearly $1.1M which was matched with more than $1.4M in local cash and in-kind contributions.
The project involved the renovation of four building facades; transformation of an abandoned property into a local outfitter space; a new trail along Wolf Creek; and enhanced parking and pedestrian infrastructure in downtown. The project is anticipated to be complete by the Fall of 2023. The Regional Commission is pleased to be involved throughout the planning and project implementation phases of the overall effort!
