The New River Valley (NRV) is part of an interconnected regional workforce ecosystem that provides a relatively stable exchange of workers, an excellent transportation infrastructure, regional availability of housing and other quality of life amenities. Within the NRV, approximately 30,000 people work and live in the region. Approximately 19,000 workers commute in and approximately 17,000 commute out of the region to work. These patterns indicate that the NRV has significant economic opportunities and is a work destination regionally. Based on the map, you can see the percentages of workers that move within the region from each locality. More information, by locality, can be found on the NRV’s website at https://nrvrc.org/data-topics/transportation. You can also check out the On The Map tool provided by the U.S. Census Bureau at https://onthemap.ces.census.gov/.  If you have any specific data needs or information requests, contact Joy Rumley at jrumley@nrvrc.org.
