National Small Business Week is celebrated during the first week of May every year. The aim of this week is to honor the entrepreneurs, who have played their part in growing the economy. In the New River Valley, there are approximately 3,500 business entities. Of those, 51% have less than 5 employees and 95% have 50 or fewer employees.
How can you support a small business in the NRV? Here are five easy ways:
1. Eat at one of your favorite independent restaurants or coffee shops
2. Purchase art from a local artist
3. Visit your local farmers’ market
4. Support your local chamber of commerce
5. Share posts from your favorite local businesses social media
We encourage everyone to shop small and local businesses when they can. This month and all year long, make even more of an effort to support the region’s small businesses. It’s an easy way to help small businesses in the region succeed.
