New River Valley Regional Commission – Regional Planner I-II

The New River Valley Regional Commission is actively seeking a team-oriented and highly motivated individual for its next Regional Planner. The Commission is a planning agency located in beautiful Southwest Virginia, that serves 14 local governments and three institutions of higher education.
The successful candidate will support multiple projects and programs that adjust each year to align with local partner needs. The upcoming FY27 Work Program includes opportunities to contribute towards: transportation planning, local comprehensive plans and ordinances, and grant administration for community development and public infrastructure-related projects. This position will specialize in collaboration, enjoy working directly with community partners, and have a knack for collecting and analyzing technical information. Candidates who excel in this role have a technical mindset, enjoy community engagement and providing support multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. This position will function in a highly collaborative environment, offering opportunities for leadership and supporting roles across the Commission’s annual work program.
The position is preferred full-time and in-person; however, the Commission may choose to offer one or more part-time positions, depending on qualifications and level of interest. Minimum requirements include a BA/BS degree or equivalent professional experience. Continued professional growth is strongly supported. Experience with Adobe and Microsoft products is a must. Starting full-time salary range $47,500 to $62,500, DOQ. The full-time position offers four days in-office and one day remote work. Excellent benefits package includes paid employer health options and participation in the Virginia Retirement System. Starting part-time salary range is $25-$35 per hour.
