Are you interested in a role that will help advance technology commercialization and talent development in Southwest Virginia? The New River Valley Regional Commission, a planning agency that serves 13 local governments and three institutions of higher education, is seeking a creative and team-oriented Regional Innovation Officer (RIO). This pivotal position supports Virginia's Additive Manufacturing & Applied Materials Strategy Development Consortium for a recently awarded US Economic Development Administration grant. The RIO will be the primary point of contact for the consortium. They will provide leadership for the development of a consortium strategy, convene consortium members and other regional entities to advance goals, and institutionalize activities that will ensure the consortium and its members can pursue federal, state, and other opportunities to develop a Tech Hub in additive manufacturing and applied materials.

The successful candidate will specialize in economic or workforce development, enjoy working with and communicating data, support local partners with the pursuit and management of competitive funding opportunities, have a strong degree of intellectual curiosity, and be a self- starter with the ability to learn new topics and concepts quickly. The ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with others, understand technology transfer between firms and has experience working with diverse groups and varied industries will ensure consortium success. The RIO will join a team of planning and GIS professionals at the Regional Commission that work collaboratively across multiple planning disciplines.

This position will lead a new program in an environment where continued personal and professional growth is strongly encouraged and supported. Experience in technology-based economic development, coordination of multiple stakeholders, strong communication skills, and grant management is desired. This is a mid to senior-level position, minimum requirements include a BA/BS with two years of relevant experience. Hiring range is $65K-$90K, DOQ. Excellent benefits package.
