Pulaski Community Youth Center

In partnership with the Pulaski Community Youth Center, Pulaski County is currently pursuing a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Planning Grant through the Department of Housing and Community Development.  Established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2015, the Center plans to operate an after-school care program out of the former Riverlawn Elementary School in Fairlawn.

New River Valley HOME Consortium Establishes a Non-Profit

For a little over a year, the New River Valley HOME Consortium has had a non-profit arm, NRV Home, in which to better serve the needs of the region. Currently the HOME Consortium Board is comprised of two representatives from each of the five member localities and a non-voting member from both Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs), Community Housing Partners and Habitat for Humanity NRV.

Housing is a topic that affects every resident in the New River Valley. When a Commission partner reached out to ask if there was a comprehensive housing resource list for the NRV, we realized one did not exist. Many agencies have information for the clientele they serve, but almost all struggle to consistently connect clients to accurate and up-to-date resources.

After two years of research and planning, the New River Valley TimeBank, a project developed and supported through the efforts of the NRV Livability Initiative, the NRV Aging in Place Leadership Team, and the HOME Consortium, was launched.

AC Wilson Building Renovations in Radford

When Taylor Hollow Construction acquired the AC Wilson building on West Main Street in Radford, it had been vacant for 30 years and was very close to falling down. The reconstruction was completed this year and the historic building is now home to 10 beautiful two bedroom apartments for low and moderate income people and two commercial spaces.

Pulaski Adult Day Service and Fall Prevention Center

Construction is complete for the Pulaski Adult Day Service and Fall Prevention facility. Final landscaping, furnishing, and equipping the building is currently underway. The building is approximately 4,200 square feet and is designed to serve 30 elderly or disabled participants in addition to two exam rooms designated for fall prevention clients.
