This winter and spring, the New River Valley will host two new small business development programs in Giles and Montgomery counties, with both the Giles County Tourism Office and the Millstone Kitchen at Price’s Fork school developing business plan ‘pitch’ competitions.
NRVRC staff completed the 2019 update to the region’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) document. In addition to the full CEDS report, the NRVRC develops a ‘consumer version’ of the report that summarizes economic development trends and CEDS goals and strategies, and provides a listing of each year’s top priority CEDS projects.
Each year the Regional Commission hosts a luncheon meeting of the chief elected officials and chief administrative officials from across the region. The purpose of the meeting is to provide brief updates on regional initiatives while each community shares their most pressing issues.
On October 3rd NRV Rail 2020 hosted a reception coordinated by the Blacksburg Partnership public-private coalition to extend passenger rail service from Roanoke to Christiansburg. Approximately 75 leaders from across the region attended to show support for the multi-year effort.
