The Regional Commission recently partnered with Christiansburg nonprofit, Downtown Christiansburg Inc. (DCI), to complete an annual action plan. DCI was founded in 2012 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 2018.
The New River Valley Regional Commission is receiving a Bronze designation from the national SolSmart (www.solsmart.org) program for advancing solar energy options in the New River Valley. It is only the second regional organization in Virginia to achieve the SolSmart designation. Nationally there are only seven regional organizations designated by SolSmart.
Neighbors in Need, a program powered by Millstone Kitchen at the Old Prices Fork Elementary School, was created in response to the increased need for food access in response to the pandemic. Local caterers prepared hot individual meals and supplied them to multiple area partners for distribution to individuals in need.
On October 26-28th, the Town of Pembroke and Giles County hosted a series of virtual workshop as part of the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) program. The workshop sessions are the focal point of the planning process, bringing together federal and local partners to discuss local outdoor recreation and economic development needs and potential solutions, and to work collaboratively to prioritize goals
