As the population of Montgomery County grows to almost 140,000 by 2040, helping ensure a high quality of life is imperative to the economic and social wellbeing of the community. Having world class recreation facilities and programs that serve the community’s diverse and changing population is one way to ensure this quality of life.
With this in mind, the New River Valley Regional Commission (NRVRC) has agreed to assist the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department (MCPR) with the creation of a Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Having a written plan will help MCPR as it navigates the future of the department, its programs, and facilities.
Elements of the Master Plan includes engaging with the MCPR Advisory Commission and staff to inventory existing facilities and programs. It also includes a review of national and state standards. A community survey will be developed and administered via mailings and the internet to gauge what types of facilities and programs are currently being used. After all these tasks, recommendations will be given based on the survey responses, standards reviewed, and facilities and programs inventoried. The project runs from January 2015 to December 2015.
