The New River Valley Commerce Park, which is an AEP certified site, received support for its efforts to market the park to industries with a $10,000 grant.
NRVRC staff have begun the 2018-19 update process for the New River Valley Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) document. The CEDS provides a review of economic data and conditions for NRVRC jurisdictions, identifies goals and strategies that help to address these regional issues, and prioritizes regional economic development projects that the region can undertake to achieve these goals.
NRVRC coordinates $85,000 GO Virginia grant to expand small business resources in the New River Valley
New River Valley Regional Commission staff have been working with the Roanoke Regional Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to pursue a grant from the GO Virginia regional economic development program. The GO Virginia Region 2 council awards grants to economic development projects that advance high-wage job creation in their area (Region 2 includes the New River Valley, Roanoke, and Lynchburg regions).
The Pathways to the American Dream project, funded by a Federal America’s Promise grant, recently assisted 150 participants in becoming Registered Nurses (RNs) and entering the workforce with a median wage of $25.52/hour, filling much needed nursing positions in healthcare facilities ranging from major hospitals to local nursing homes.
The New River Valley Development Corporation board unanimously approved a $20,000 loan from the NRVDC revolving loan fund to Michelle Goodman for her Sweet & Savory Donuts and Bagels LLC. This new restaurant in Radford will offer smoothies, lunch items, and of course donuts and bagels
